Tri Training will begin Tuesday, Sept. 7 training will take place every Tuesday & Thursday leading up to the race at Bob Sierra on Sun, Oct 2.
Ages 5-8 will meet 5-5:45pm
Ages 9-12 will meet 6-7pm
Cost will be $40 for members & $55 for program members.

There will be Limited Scholarships Available.  Michelle Susman (michellesussman@verizon.net) will be the instructor and Michelle will also be leading ALL Youth Fitness!

Tampa Bay Tri Sports, http://tampabaytri-sports.com/, has a youth group in New Tampa coached by Michael Benedict (813.973.3249; mkb17921@verizon.net. They meet on Wed at 6pm at either Flatwoods or Suncaost (54) for a group ride and Sundays at 1pm for running and biking drills, transition practice and sometimes a duathlon. The group ranges from 7-11 year olds and is considered a developmental team. They have an older more competitive group that meets in Pinellas County. Sometimes they do big team activities like open water swim clinics and group rides.  You can contact Kristin at flkimes@tampabay.rr.com for a parent’s perspective.

RACING: The YMCA is going to be a part of the YTS race series for 2011.  The cost for the race is $35 for youth & $45 for ages 16-100.  Email Suzanne Henslee at suzannehensleetriathlon@gmail.com with any youth tri racing questions you may have.

There will also be a Youth Tri in conjunction with the St. Pete Mad Dogs Tri at Madiera Beach on May 21, http://www.madbeachtriathlon.com/.  I believe there will also be a Jr. Top Gun in conjunction with Top Gun at Fort Desoto on July 30.

The race distances for the YTS events are as follows (the elite distance is new this year):

5 and 6 year olds – The Sprinters
25 yard swim (1 pool lengths), ½ to 1 mile bike, ¼ mile run

7 and 8 year olds – The Olympians
100 yard swim (4 pool lengths), 2 mile bike, ½ mile run

9 and 10 year olds – The Contenders -
100 yard swim (4 pool lengths), 2 mile bike, ½ mile run

11 to 14 year olds – The Elites
200 yard swim (8 pool lengths), 4 mile bike, 1 mile run

Adult Super Sprinters – 200 yard swim (8 pool lengths), 4 mile bike, 1 mile run (Parents Are Encouraged To Race!)

Elite Distances for Each Age (new this year)

(Those athletes that have been podium finishers in at least 3 YTS races any season can race Elite)

Awards go to the top 3 in every age and gender and an overall 10 additional points are awarded to Elite YTS athlete at each race

Ages 7 through 10 will race: 150 yard swim/4 mile bike/1 mile run

Ages 11 through 15 will race: 300 yard swim/6 mile bike/1.5 mile run

YOUTH CYCLING PROGRAM: Do you have a child between the ages of 10-16 years old that loves to cycle?  Join the Tampa Cycling Academy and learn cycling skills from experienced cyclists.  Group rides on the Suncoast Trail on Tues/Thur nights at 6:30pm.  For more information contact Didier at floridayouthcyclingacademy@yahoo.com.

VENTURE CREW 96: The Karstendieks have put together Team Bob Sierra Crew 96/Tri-Sport USAT Club that is a group of competitive youth triathletes that also do volunteer work. It is tied in with the boy scouts and is a great group. For more information on this, email Paul Karstendiek at Paul.Karstendiek.ctr@socom.mil.

JUNIOR TRIATHLETES (ages 15-19): Jennifer Hutchison is our RADC (Regional Athlete Development Coordinator) and her role within the USAT athlete development program is to serve as a resource for junior development races, camps, clinics in the Florida region.  Got a question on how to qualify for Youth/Junior Elite Nationals or what camps are available to help take your training and racing to the next level?
